About Porcelain Dental Veneers
Over time and for a variety of reasons, your teeth can begin to show flaws and damage. They can become stained by food, drink, and some antibiotics. Gums can recede as you age exposing the tooth root. Also, you may feel that your teeth are too long or short for your face, or you may have minor gaps between teeth but don't want to do orthodontics. Porcelain veneers work as a great option for correcting these flaws and creating a natural, beautiful, Hollywood smile. Veneers are thin but durable covers that adhere to the front of the teeth and are able to be matched to look natural. Whether you want to have whiter teeth or a more even and straighter smile, veneers are a great option for enhancing the overall aesthetic appearance of your teeth. Dr. Neela Patel at Houston Heights Dentistry uses custom-designed porcelain veneers to both freshen and create new smiles for her patients.
Porcelain Veneers Reviews
Porcelain Veneers - What to Expect
To begin the process of making the veneers, room must be made by removing a thin layer of enamel from each tooth that will be covered. Once the teeth have been prepared, Dr. Patel will make a mold or impression of the teeth, which will be used to create your custom veneers in a dental laboratory. A temporary veneer will cover your teeth until the permanent veneers are returned to our office. The custom veneers will be attached to the front of the teeth with a special resin bonding agent. They will be adjusted as needed to give you a comfortable fit.
Porcelain Veneers - Treatment Aftercare
A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled for about one week after the veneers are placed to make sure that you are not only happy with your smile, but also that your speech and chewing function is very comfortable. Porcelain veneers are more resistant to staining than your natural enamel, but to keep them in their best condition, it is advised to avoid staining foods and drinks like coffee, soda, tea, and red wine. You should continue to follow a good home oral care routine, including brushing your teeth with a non-abrasive toothpaste, flossing, and visiting the dentist for professional cleanings and dental exams three or four times a year. With good care, porcelain veneers can last up to 20 years.
Porcelain Veneers - Insurance Coverage
Porcelain veneers are considered a cosmetic procedure, so it is generally not covered by dental insurance. However, our office accepts many payment options and we can help patients with financing plans to make porcelain veneers more affordable.
