About Invisalign® Orthodontics
Invisalign is an advanced dental technology that works by using a series of custom clear plastic aligners to gradually shift and straighten teeth without the hassles that come with wearing braces. Whether minor or major adjustments are needed, Invisalign can work to correct the alignment of your teeth. The nearly invisible aligners have a tight fit around the teeth to gently move them into the desired place. They can still be taken out when eating and during teeth cleaning, which allows patients to not have to worry about getting debris stuck in them. At Houston Heights Dentistry, Dr. Neela Patel creates customized Invisalign aligners for each patient to help them work toward a straighter and improved smile.

Invisalign - What to Expect
If you decide that Invisalign is right for you, your treatment will start with digital x-rays and dental impressions that will be used to create your first set of teeth aligners. Dr. Patel and our staff will help you understand how to wear and care for your aligners, as well as when and how long you can remove them (Invisalign should be worn 20 – 22 hours per day). Most aligners will be worn for two weeks before the patient switches to a new set, but this can vary based on the patient's progress and treatment plan. Dental visits should be scheduled about every six weeks to check the fit of the current aligners and take impressions for new trays. During your treatment, Dr. Patel will be able to give you a better estimate of how much longer you will be wearing Invisalign, but the average patient wears aligners for about one year.
Invisalign - Treatment Aftercare
Once the patient's teeth are in proper alignment, it is important to use a retainer to maintain the results. A retainer does not need to be worn as many hours a day as Invisalign teeth aligners. Most patients only wear their retainer at night, but this will be determined by Dr. Patel. Patients should continue to visit for a follow-up about once a year for professional dental cleanings and exams, and follow a good home oral care routine to keep their newly straightened teeth healthy.
Invisalign - Insurance Coverage
The total cost of Invisalign will depend on the complexity of the patient's case and how many different sets of aligners are created during the treatment period. Dental insurance may cover some of the cost of Invisalign, but this varies greatly depending on the insurance company and policy. Our administrative team can contact your insurance to calculate what will be covered by your insurance and what will be billed directly to you. Our office can also help make Invisalign more affordable through our payment options and financing plans.
