Speaker 1: Alright. Take a look at the screen. If you were dating, which one of these people would you be more attracted to, the smile and the left or the smile on the right? Audience members, what, left or right?

Audience: Right

Speaker 1: Right, right? Well, it's a fact. People are more likely to respond positively to someone with whiter teeth. Studies show they're more likely to get hired, score a higher salary, and even have better luck on dates. Here to help you get a brighter, whiter smile, please welcome Dr Neela Patel from the Texas Center of Dental Excellence. Hello there.

Neela Patel: Hello.

Speaker 1: It seems like over the past few years, the whole idea of teeth whitening has just exploded, and part of that is due to technology.

Neela Patel: Yes.

Speaker 1: But let's start with, we know there's lots of over the counter things to whiten your teeth, but why should we just take those with a grain of salt sometimes?

Neela Patel: Well, whenever your whitening at home or over the counter or even in mall services, you have to know that not all these products are American Dental Association approved. They don't contain the correct amount of product. Some of them even contain chloride. Some of these products are made one size fits all. They're not going to fit everyone's teeth exactly, so custom fitting things from the dentist office are great. Also, it's always great to have your teeth checked before you apply anything to them.

Speaker 1: Right, right. Okay. There's a reason why certain things can only be done in the doctor's office, because of the strength that it has as well.

Neela Patel: That's right.

Speaker 1: Okay. The latest professional whitening products include Zoom Quick Time.

Neela Patel: Oh, I am so excited about the Zoom Quick Time. It is the best thing since sliced bread in dentistry.

Speaker 1: I'm staring at her teeth, her beautiful teeth. Of course you're a dentist. Did you Zoom yourself? Did you Zoom yourself?

Neela Patel: I did the Quick Time last Monday, and it's amazing. Four shades whiter, no sensitivity, in and out of the dental office in 20 minutes.

Speaker 1: Wow, okay. I think that's the important thing too, is the no sensitivity.

Neela Patel: Yeah, the no sensitivity.

Speaker 1: Okay, so you have your Zoom whitening. How long does something like that last?

Neela Patel: The in office Zoom whitening treatment we have with the big laser lamp, it's actually an LED, it will last, depending on what you do to your teeth, but it would last, I would say, up to a couple of years for some people.

Speaker 1: Oh, wow.

Neela Patel: Most of us, probably six months to a year we want to touch up again. You're going to have the brightest white for the first two weeks after you've done the whitening procedure itself, but because your teeth will rehydrate and anything that would stain a white shirt is going to re-stain your teeth.

Speaker 1: Right. Coffee, tea, use the straw.

Neela Patel: Yes.

Speaker 1: Can you also pinpoint where you want to do it? Like with me, I have veneers on the top, and they're nice and pretty and white. Then my teeth on the bottom, my natural teeth are a little bit darker so I want to match that. Can you do that as well?

Neela Patel: Yes, you can just customize. Obviously veneers do not whiten.

Speaker 1: Right, and don't need to be, or might not need to be.

Neela Patel: Yeah, you've got beautiful shade forever. It lasts forever, but the whitening on natural teeth, it's just like getting your hair dyed. You need to touch it up. So yes, you can just customize it to the bottom teeth.

Speaker 1: The bottom? Alright. Okay. There's the Zoom whitening pens as well.

Neela Patel: Yes, yes.

Speaker 1: This is a nifty little thing to have.

Neela Patel: Right? This is a cool thing, and I have one here to show. It's something that you can carry, for ladies, in their purse. I guess men can carry it in their back pocket.

Speaker 1: Mm-hmm (affirmative). Pull that out.

Neela Patel: See if I can get it out.

Speaker 1: There you go.

Neela Patel: Cool. It's a little pen. It's just like a brush, so you can brush it on your teeth. It takes about 20 clicks. You want to brush your teeth and then dry them. Kind of want to fan them dry a little bit after you've brushed and flossed. Then you apply the gel, then you want to fan it a little bit, and then just go on about your way. Go out to that job interview or wherever, or that date, but you can't eat or drink for 30 minutes.

Speaker 1: Okay. That's pretty cool. Yeah. But is that in place of Zoom whitening, or is that just a little maintenance?

Neela Patel: This is a touch up.

Speaker 1: Okay, alright.

Neela Patel: This is a touch up product.

Speaker 1: Alright. Electric toothbrushes, do they make a big difference? Because I always, I go back and forth...

Neela Patel: Yes. An electric toothbrush will actually remove more plaque than using a regular toothbrush for one month, one use.

Speaker 1: Especially with kids who we know that sometimes we're not watching our child brush their teeth all the time, and sometimes I'll, "Did you brush?" "Yeah, I did." And he's sucking on the toothbrush because it tastes like bubblegum. Right? So having that electric one can make sure...

Neela Patel: It makes a difference. Yeah. It also comes with a timer, which is handy for kids.

Speaker 1: I'm going to wrap up with there are some recommended at home products, for example, custom made bleaching trays by your dentist, which you can use as well, but the Zoom is one of those things that's just quicker, faster, out of the way.

Neela Patel: It is. It is so easy to touch up.

Speaker 1: Alright, well, Dr Patel brought some goodies for the audience today. You are all going home with Zoom whitening pens. Right after you leave here, you need to go to a job interview, or you need to go get a date. Okay? One lucky person is going home with a Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush. That's like the gold standard of toothbrushes. That person is... Congratulations, Heather Davis.

Speaker 1: Alright. Thank you very much. If you'd like to make an appointment for your next whitening, call the Texas Center of Dental Excellence at 713-861-7216, 713-861-7216, or log onto cosmeticHoustonHeightsDentist.com.

Speaker 1: I want to wrap up with, how often should we go? Every six months?

Neela Patel: The Quick Time...

Speaker 1: Just to go get your teeth checked.

Neela Patel: Oh, teeth check. Every six months.

Speaker 1: Alright.

Neela Patel: There's a reason for that too, which I'll share with my patients.

Speaker 1: And floss, and tell a dentist the truth. When you are flossing, and you say, "Oh, I floss all the time," and the dentist like, "Really?" Click. "What's that? Hot Dog?" Alright, anyway...
